The Bathers of Arcadia
Soloshow at Galerie Bacquart, 27 Rue de Seine
Through a series of 10 paintings in antique frames, Guillaume places bathers on the shores of our memories. Between ancient archetypes and fragments of collective memory, he weaves a suspended world where bathers and gods coexist in an Arcadia that is both gentle and melancholic.
At the invitation of the Galerie Jean-Baptiste Bacquart, Guillaume Sardin presents his first solo show in Paris. The exhibition "Les Baigneurs de l'Arcadie" explores the archetypes of bathers and of Arcadia. Not only have bathers , been an inexhaustible source of artistic inspiration since antiquity, but so has Arcadia: a timeless region where nature and innocence reign. Arcadia is tinged with a gentle melancholy, summed up by the famous phrase "Et in Arcadia ego" ,even in this paradise, death is present. A phrase that recurs throughout the paintings in the exhibition.
